5 am Wake Up Call

It's always like this.

On the weekends my father would wake up at 5 am, and begin his second job. His would entail going to small businesses and houses and washing their windows. Like clockwork, he would always be doing this job, as he would always want to be supportive of his wife and kids. Always working. Hustling to make sure he could pay the bills on time.

For the weekdays he would be a teacher. A job that didn’t pay well. Being a part of the education system for forty years, he told me once or twice to not become an educator. As a whole the education system in America is flawed due to low pay, and lack of interest in students. Also helping kids find their calling would never work out. Most kids are lazy, and would much rather spend their days smoking reefer than finding out who discovered America.

That’s another word nobody talks about.

America, or the place where dreams were supposed to come true wouldn’t happen to anyone. There was no money or jobs. Somehow living the life we all envisioned would only grow harder, and wouldn’t result in long weekends on the beach. For most weekends my father would work, and I would be there by his side. Spending the day together he would talk about his dreams. My father had a lot on his mind. He just didn’t know the right way to pursue his own ambitions.
